Hello and welcome to Prescribed Listening where we, the Vesta team, advise you on great audio drama to cure all ails. 

If you’ve been having symptoms such as: getting lost in an exquisitely crafted narrative; aching when talented voice actors do their thing; or, yearning for the moon . . .

You should listen to Moonbase Theta, Out. 

The show is set in the near future during the final shut down sequence of the Moonbase program. We meet Roger Brigado-Fischer, the comms lead for Moonbase Theta, as he shares the events of the shut down sequence and, most importantly, a personal message to his husband back on Earth. 

Moonbase Theta, Out is described as queer, emotional scifi and I can assure you that it is all of those and more. One of the many things I love about MTO is how it starts as a single-narrator show and explodes into one of the most diverse and richly plotted stories in the audio drama space. Everything from the writing to the acting to the sound design is just amazing and I’ve spoken before about how Moonbase Theta, Out continues to be a huge inspiration for my own work. 

The show contains a lot of famous poetry, but, honestly, the whole thing is just, poetry. 

Also, uh, the show features two of fiction’s best dogs. Truly, the goodest girls. And, uh, it also has my favourite artificial consciousness - but you cannot tell Sec that I said that.  

After five incredible seasons, the show’s finale is releasing on Sunday 3rd September 2023. There has never been a more perfect time to start listening, and be sure not to skip the bonus content. Because I support the show on Patreon I got to listen to the finale today and it exceeds all expectations. It’s wonderful. I cried. Just, a lot of happy tears were shed.
